k-1 visa where interview is held?
Me and my fiance just filed for the k-1 visa, i’m the beneficiary and I live in vancouver BC as a born and raised canadian citizen. My question is, when i go for my interview for my k-1 visa, where EXACTLY am I going? i know ill be informed within the next few months as to where because we just filed for our k-1 visa a few days ago, but I heard all k-1 visa interviews are in montreal only…is this true? isnt there something in vancouver to have the interview instead? i’d just prefer the less hassle then going to montreal or something…please help!

The U.S. Consulate General in Vancouver processes fiancé (K1) and spouse (K3) cases for citizens of Canada, or aliens who are Canadian permanent residents. Applicants must also be residing in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Yukon or the Northwest Territories. All other applicants in Canada are processed at the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal.

Canadian Filed For K-1 Fiance Visa & Need Help?
I’m a Canadian citizen and filed for a K-1 fiance visa to move to the USA to marry my American fiance. So far all we got from Immigration was a letter stating that they’ve received the forms and fee. I know some of what all is involved, but I’m not quite sure about where I’ll have to go for my interview here in Canada when I do receive the information package. From what I heard awhile ago, there is only 2 US Consulates in Canada that handle the fiance visas. One In Montreal, QC and The other in Vancouver, BC. I live in Toronto and I do know there is a US Consulate here. Does this Consulate handle the fiance visas? I really would like to know before I recieve the information pkg, that way I can start putting money aside for transportation if I have to go to Montreal.

The only consulates in Canada that process K-1 visas are Vancouver & Montreal. As you are in Toronto, you will have no choice but to go to Montreal for the interview, so start saving. Since you’ve only just submitted your application, you have at least a 4-6month wait before you will receive an interview date.

This is for anyone who’s gone through the K-1 Fiance Visa process from Canada into the USA. I’ll be getting my information pkg within the next few weeks, as to what to bring with me for my interview at the US Consulate in Montreal, QC. The question I have is, if anyone has gone through this process within the past few years, how much does the medical exam cost? Also, if you have children, do they need to have the exam done as well? Do your children also have to go with you to the interview? As I said, I’ll be getting my pkg soon and I want to be prepared as far as finances go. Thanks in advance!

The medical cost varies by the doctor, who must be approved by immigration. Just remember the person that brings you over has to make 125% of the minimum poverty guideline. I don’t know how many children you have.

i’m wondering how long the entire process for the petition, interview with the embassy and actually obtaining the visa so that we can leave the philippines and get married in the US…the reason for this is while i’m waiting for the visa to be processed i want to work. The company i applied for however, requires me to stay for at least a year and if i don’t they will fine me a lump sum..

The whole process can take anywhere from six to twelve months, including the visa issuance itself. But once the petition is approved, the visa must be issued within four months or the petition is no longer valid. You will have to figure out your timing from this rather vague information – sorry, but every case is too different to generalize.
